9 TIPS WHEN PACKING YOUR CARRY-ON LUGGAGE.

Daily medications – When packing your checked luggage, remember that you run the risk of having things stolen, lost or damaged. Therefore, keep any prescription medications with you, along with any over-the-counter medications you may need during the flight.

Phone charger – Never assume your phone battery will last you to the hotel; especially if you have electronic booking or information saved in your inbox that you will need in order to get from A to B. Pack the charger cord for your phone/tablet in case they need a quick boost before arriving at your destination.

Paperwork – While in transit, keep any important documents you will need for the trip; such as passport, wallet, any invitations and tickets, both for travel and events. It is a smart idea to have a paper copy of any tickets, directions or itineraries you will need throughout the entire trip, in the case that your electronic device may fail.

Valuables – Although unlikely, anything packed in your check-in luggage runs the risk of being stolen or damaged. It is a smart idea to keep your valuable items on your person while travelling; things such as your camera, computer, any valuable jewelry and other luxury or expensive items.

Entertainment – Depending on where your destination is, flights can take anywhere from half an hour up to days. Although long flights usually supply you with some tv screens for entertainment, it’s not a bad idea to come prepared with some entertainment of your own; magazines, books, games, or another source of amusement. However, packing hardcover books takes up quite a bit of space and can add a lot of weight to your bag. E-books or audio books are a convenient alternative when travelling.

Extra clothing – For long flights, it’s not a bad idea to pack a change of clothing or a change of socks and underwear at the very least.  Depending on where you’re travelling to, the clothing you wore on the flight may not be location appropriate. Think about packing a few extra items of clothing in your carry-on to change into upon your arrival. It’s also a good idea to have a change of clothes just in case your luggage goes missing.

Toiletries – Pack the essential toiletries in your carry-on such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, face/body wipes and roll on deodorant. You want to start your trip right, so to avoid rummaging through your suitcase, keep your small collection of toiletries in your carry-on. Freshen up in the bathroom and change into your spare clothes, if needed, before leaving the airport.

Some snacks – Some airlines in-flight food/snacks are better than others; however, if you have any food preferences or intolerances, it is probably a good idea to pack some satisfying snacks to last you the duration of your flight.

Jumper/jacket – Airplanes cabins are notorious for being chilly, so be sure to bring a jumper/jacket, but DO NOT pack it in your carry on. Rather than packing it, drape it over your shoulders or arms. Airlines don’t count jumpers or jackets as one of your free carry-on bags; freeing up some space for other essentials you will need to pack for during the flight.
